Hunting and Fishing

Delaware County and neighboring Ulster County have some of the best fishing and hunting in the country.  In order to do either, you need a license provided by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.

Fishing
The first step, if you don’t already have a fishing license, is to go and get one at one of the following places:

Del Sports
817 Main Street
Margaretville, NY 12455
(845) 586-4103

Town of Middletown
4239 State Highway 28
Middletown, NY 12455
(845) 586-4566

Daily fishing licenses cost $5 and a 7-day license is $15.  For children under 16, licenses are not required.  For non-New York residents, the fee is slightly higher.

When getting the license, ask the proprietor where the best places to fish are locally (this typically depends on the time of year and how the rivers and creeks are flowing).  Generally, locations to fish are marked by brown and yellow wood signs and provide some off-road parking.  For more detailed information, call (800) 642-4443 or go to the NYS DEC website here.

Hunting
Unless you already possess a hunting license, you will need to show proof that you have attended the mandatory hunter or bowhunter education course in order to get a new hunting license.  Information about each is available on the NYC DEC website here.

Here is where you can inquire about hunting licenses:

The Department of Environmental Conservation provides a very helpful pdf of hunting seasons here:

For seasons of different game, this is a great resource:  http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/65231.html

Please hunt only in approved areas and be careful not to trespass on private property.

Hunting and discharging of any firearms whatsoever on any of our properties is strictly prohibited.
